Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week

Spain's eco fashion scene might currently be most exotic with its innovative use of piña (pineapple) fabric, but the runway at Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week is sure to soon be alive with all sorts of delectable garments and fruity personalities.

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada is not an eco fashion designer by any stretch of the imagination (though she has been known to use some recyclables), but her extreme theatricality suggests that mainstream fashion still has a long way to go when it comes to integrating colorful play with signature dressing.

Ruiz de la Prada's Spring/Summer 2009 Collection was a bit too outlandish for some, but her showing at this week's Madrid venue will probably up the ante even more. Now, if only her designs incorporated sustainable textiles and upcycling - this would be avant-garde in the best sense of the word.
