NYFW: Titania Inglis A/W 2012 Collection

Titania Inglis identified the perfect venue for her inaugural runway show at New York Fashion Week. The Brooklyn-based designer's presentation at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center  on Thursday was consistent with the space's reputation as a cool incubator for creativity and reflection as well as investigations related to contemporary culture and the social landscape.

Ecco Domani award winner Inglis demonstrated that her multi-faceted approach to design can definitely co-exist in the realms of sustainable fashion as well as mainstream circles. With a proven commitment to sourcing fabrics responsibly, producing locally, and streamlining each collection with versatile silhouettes as well as experimenting with zero-waste principles, Inglis is a definite front runner on the fashion frontier. She thinks long and hard about the big picture of fashion and consumption, and this makes her work totally believable and smart.  

We asked Inglis how she felt about doing it all over again for September, and she shared these wise thoughts: "I'd love to present at Fashion Week again next season if I can drum up the resources, but it's an expensive and time-consuming endeavor, and what's most important to me is to concentrate my energy on the line itself. The Ecco Domani award has already opened up a lot of doors for me, and I'm excited to see what's on the other side."

Set designer Ryan Crozier created a modular triangle wall from cardboard, aluminum, and medium-density fiberboard (mdf). The cardboard and aluminum sections were reused for an Eyebeam installation, and the mdf triangles will become shelving for Titania's design studio.
